GROW was initially inspired by a commitment to reach out to young people in Glenrothes. The vision of the founders was to employ a youth worker who would encourage and support young people both in schools and in local churches whilst also providing assistance to teachers, chaplains and church youth leaders. This vision has not changed.
The project is funded locally by individuals and fundraising events and where possible from grant giving bodies. After 3 years of local fundraising and support from the Church of Scotland Parish Development Fund GROW employed the first worker in December 2008. Since that time each of our three workers has provided activities both in schools and churches for young people of all ages.
The Trust has 3 Trustees and a Management Group who are volunteers, provided by many of the town’s churches. They provide the legal and regulatory framework for the work. We also work in partnership with SU Scotland who provide invaluable support with training and line management.
The Trustees and Management Group support the worker by publicising the work in the town’s churches, encouraging the local congregation to assist by volunteering, giving financially, praying and facilitating links with both schools and churches.
